Off the Map: Auditions for Spring 2018

Students looking for new paths to follow their passion on stage take note!  For the spring mainstage production, Theater Studies welcomes a new director from Duke's Dance program and department of African and African American Studies, Professor Thomas F. DeFrantz. Professor DeFrantz, a performance studies scholar, dancer, writer and historian, brings his extensive background in American dance history (read about some of his research here) as well as his experience with the intersection of performance and technology to this passion project.

DeFrantz describes the upcoming production of Two Gentlemen of Verona as "a travelogue through uncharted emotions, and how they pop out, gangly and unexpected, like growing pains.  The characters are just on the cusp of adulthood, experimenting with aspects of love while lust, jealousy, betrayal, rage, devotion and friendship vie for attention."

"As they journey, the physical movement from Verona to Milan through the forest mirrors the movements of desire toward fantasies unknown.  Through their travels, the characters learn things about themselves and what they are willing to do to follow a passion, even when it leads them way off the map."

If you're ready to explore new territory, join Theater Studies for the auditions on November 21st!  Go here for more information about the show and the auditions.
