Cynthia Bunn, remembered fondly by many Theater Studies students and alumni, retired at the end of July.
For 27 remarkable years – two in Women’s Studies before bringing her talents to Theater Studies for twenty-five more -- Cyndi has been the heart, soul, and mastermind behind the curtain. She's not just been our business manager in TS; she's been our mentor, guide, and advocate, as well as a dear friend to so many of us. Her hard work has steered our department to success.
Many will remember her unwavering support of distinguished faculty and students alike along her journey here. With a bachelor's in Zoology from UNC and a master’s from Duke Liberal Studies, her exceptional brinkmanship has consistently navigated complex challenges with ease. (Read: Helped us figure out what live theater looks like in lockdown, without running away screaming.) Beyond her sharp intellect, she has a gift for fostering a workplace built on both esteem and joy.
She and her husband Doug plan to travel internationally and spend lots of time with their new grandson in New Hampshire. We'll deeply miss her grit, honesty, and kindness. Thank you, Cyndi, for everything. We will cherish and remember you with gratitude, and wish you the very best in your well-deserved retirement. May it be filled with the sweetness of family, friends, and maple syrup in New Hampshire summers.
