Auditions: Fall Mainstage Production "Mr. Burns, a post-electric play" by Anne Washburn

Saturday, March 22, -
Speaker(s): Professor Jeff Storer, Director
Production dates are November 13-16 and 20-22, 2025 at Duke University. A diverse cast of eight (8) student actors is sought. All roles can be played by any ethnicity, gender, or sexual identity. "Mr. Burns" is not a musical in the traditional sense, but actors will sing and dance if cast. Students may sign up to audition using the provided link. Each half-hour slot accommodates five actors; please sign up as early in the evening as possible to avoid large gaps between groups. Actors are asked to prepare a contemporary monologue (60-90 seconds), as well as a song they feel comfortable singing acapella. Actors may be asked to sing with our composer, and any experience playing instruments, singing in choirs and in the shower will be helpful. All auditioners should find and watch the 83rd episode of "The Simpsons," titled "Cape Feare" (Season 5, Episode 2). This was the last episode written by the original writers of the show and is at the heart of Anne Washburn's play "Mr. Burns." Watch the entire episode and come prepared to tell what you remember from it. Voices and impersonations of the episode's action are welcome. Email the director Professor Jeff Storer to request the script (bear@duke.edu).
