Theater Studies Major - Area 2 (Dramatic Literature, Theater History, Performance Studies)
This course studies athletic cultures under rubrics provided by theater, performance studies, anthropology, media studies, and history to understand sport as ritual, theater, and performance. Our investigation includes professional and collegiate teams sports, as well as individual athletic performances. The course includes examinations of gender, race, and national identity in live events and in the media. A twice-weekly seminar format features lecture, discussion, independent research projects, and guest speakers from the worlds of athletics, theater, and media.
