Martavius Parrish

Broadway Actor, Singer, Director

Martavius Parrish is a New York City-based Broadway director, performer, teaching artist, and creative entrepreneur.

As a director, he is currently the resident Associate Director for the National Tour of Into the Woods starring Stephanie J. Block, Montego Glover, and Gavin Creel. Most recently, he mentored under Lear deBessonet and assistant directed New York City Center’s revival of the production starring Heather Headley, Sara Bareilles, Neil Patrick Harris, and Denee Benton, which he also joined for its Broadway transfer. The production received the NY Times Critic’s Pick for both its NYCC and Broadway runs.

He was previously involved in workshops of Disney’s adaptation of Hercules and is the Pre-Production Associate Director for the upcoming production of Oliver! at NYCC (also under deBessonet). Martavius’ directing style is highly collaborative with a focus on community-centered work that is accessible to artists and audiences historically targeted by oppression.

As a performer, he was last seen in A Christmas Carol at The ZACH Theatre in Austin, TX as Apprentice Scrooge this past winter. Other favorite credits include The Inheritance (also at ZACH Theatre), The Color Purple (Portland Center Stage), The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter (Arkansas Repertory Theatre), and Priscilla Queen of the Desert (Ogunquit Playhouse/Gateway Playhouse). He’s also been a featured performer at Carnegie Hall, The Beacon Theatre, and Yankee Stadium.

He spent several years as an Arts Educator with The Lincoln Center and has conducted workshops with NYU and the Anna Maria College Music Department. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Duke University (Trinity 2014) and Master of Music in Vocal Performance: Music Theatre from NYU.
