Internationally renowned Obie Award-winning director and playwright, Whitney Biennial invited artist, and Guggenheim Fellow, Richard Maxwell will create an installation at the Rubenstein Arts Center where participants play members of staff in a working restaurant. The performance will involve Maxwell's written text and a work-in-progress showing will occur at the end of his residency (February 1-16, 2020).

"Using the Restaurant to Evoke Institutional Culture"
Internationally renowned director and playwright Richard Maxwell is currently a visiting artist with Duke Theater Studies (February 1-16, 2020). During his residency, he will create an installation in the Rubenstein Arts Center’s gallery where participants—comprised of student actors—will play members of staff in a working restaurant. The performance will involve Maxwell’s written text and a work-in-progress showing will occur at the end of his residency.
