Kali Quinn

Physical theater specialist

Bio

Within the pre-college leadership, undergraduate and MFA programs at Brown University, Kali Quinn has facilitated interactive courses in theater (Clown, Mask, Movement, Devising, Creating for Solo Performance) and Creativity (Art & Activism and Creative Medicine). As Stateside Faculty and University Relations Director for Accademia dell’Arte (a study abroad program in Arezzo, Italy), she conducted Physical Theater workshops and created Movement Design at several universities and theaters throughout the US.

Kali originally trained in voice, movement, and mask with Sally Fox at the University of Rochester before going onto study Mask: Commedia dell'Arte, Mexican, Larval, Neutral, Full-Face; Clown, Acrobatics, Tai Chi, Melodrama, Viewpoints, Alexander, Solo Work, LeCoq, and Laban as part of her MFA in Ensemble-Based Physical Theater at the Dell'Arte International School of Physical Theatre in Blue Lake, CA (2006).

As part of her degree, Kali completed an internship/research  in Brazil with Grupo Galpão, a company she was drawn to because of their integrated style: everyone walked on stilts, everyone played an instrument, and everyone mastered text. Galpão performed in both large theaters and on a hill in the countryside. As part of Galpão's faculty at Cine Horto, Kali taught solo work and expression through gesture.

After directing, designing masks, and performing with her company GUTWorks and others, Kali went on to teach mask, clown, creating for solo performance, and movement for the Brown University/Trinity Rep MFA and undergrad programs along with Master Classes in Commedia dell'Arte at universities and conferences across the country as Stateside Faculty for Accademia dell'Arte, a physical theater study abroad program in Arezzo, Italy.
