The Miser

The Miser
Spring, 2010
Written By: Moliere
Directed By: Joseph Megel

The Miser by Moliere ran in Sheafer Theater April 2010. The play was translated and adapted by Elisabeth Lewis Corley and directed by Joseph Megel. Set was by Torry Bend, costumes by Jessica Gaffney and Ross Kolman designed lighting for the production.

Duke's fast-paced version of the classic comedy of greed versus love was a modern take on timeless themes in Corley’s fresh translation and adaptation. With a flourish of a hat or a cloak, the ingénue women doubled as the character men, and the miser’s cook doubled as his coachman. Musicians were an integral part of the play, costumed and playing instruments that included the unlikely combination of clarinet, banjo, horn, and cello, and the miser himself even joined in with his tuba. Dave Garner and Alex Kotch composed the original music.
