About the Play

The play features roles for a diverse range of characters, whom Nottage describes as African-American, light-skinned African-American, brown, white, and "white." All Duke students are welcome to audition! Contact our Director of Theater, Thomas Quintas, if you'd like to read the script.

Audition Material

You may prepare a monologue 1 - 2 minutes in length in the style of the show. Excerpts from the play are available through the audition sign-up link. Reading from the script at the audition is also welcome!

Remote Audition Submissions

If you cannot make these times or are studying off campus during the Spring 2024 term, you are welcome to submit videotaped auditions by email to Thomas Quintas thomas.quintas@duke.edu, Director of Theater.

Class Credit Opportunities

Undergraduate students cast in a mainstage production may enroll in THEATRST 350-1 Mainstage: Acting for credit. The course carries ALP, CCI, and R codes. Students can also learn about theater design and technology by working backstage on these productions and enrolling in THEATRST 226S World Building for the Theater. Enrollment in either class is voluntary. In Fall 2024, both classes are scheduled Wednesday evenings 7:30-10 p.m. on West Campus.
