Performance is a broad term that includes artistic and theatrical expressions as well as sports, religious ceremonies, music concerts, street protests, political events, and everyday behavior. The course offers an interdisciplinary survey of performance studies while providing opportunity for students to apply different methodologies in their study of the relationship between human performance and social formation. Students will attend and participate in various forms of performance on campus to analyze the intersections between individual performances and social understandings of identity and power.
